Improved navigator based diffusion tensor MRI of the human heart in vivo
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background In vivo Cardiac Diffusion Tensor Imaging (cDTI) remains extremely challenging due to a mixture of cardiac and respiratory motion. In previous work a prospective navigator technique (NAV) has been implemented and compared to breath-hold (BH) acquisitions. Statistically significant differences were found between BH and NAV techniques for helix-angle (HA) values. Further interrogation of the data suggested that the inconsistent HA patterns were found in NAV data sets in which a small fraction (up to 10%) of the diffusion-weighted frames had signal voids in some part of the LV. The purpose of this work was to improve the robustness of the NAV technique.

Diffusion tensor MRI of the human heart In Vivo with a navigator based free breathing approach
Background Diffusion tensor MRI (DTI) provides a non-invasive approach for the depiction of the myocardial fibre architecture [1-5]. In vivo DTI remains extremely challenging due to the need for motion correction. Several techniques have been used to compensate for respiratory motion: multiple breath-holds (>36 per patient), synchronised breathing and retrospective navigators based on image cro...
متن کاملDT-MRI Tractography and its Application in Cognitive Neuroscience
Recent advancement of MRI techniques and development of new methods of image analysis have allowed us to study large neural tracts within the human brain. This is based on the principle of diffusion tensor MRI that is similar to that of diffusion-weighted imaging but takes magnitude and direction of the diffusion of water into account. Using this technique we have been able to define large neur...

متن کاملAccelerated free-breathing diffusion tensor MRI of the entire human heart using spatiotemporal registration and retrospective image selection
Background Currently diffusion tensor MRI (DTI) of the heart can be performed in vivo either with a dual-gated STE [1] or gated motion-compensated PGSE [2]. Both are inefficient due to cardiac and respiratory motion leading to long scan times [3]. Simultaneous multi-slice (SMS) blippedCAIPI [4] has emerged as a unique EPI technique to acquire multiple slices simultaneously. SMS has been used fo...
متن کاملIn vivo fiber tractography of the right and left ventricles using diffusion tensor MRI of the entire human heart
Background Diffusion Tensor MRI (DTI) tractography of the human heart in vivo has previously been performed with either large slice gaps or limited coverage [1,2]. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of performing DTI of the entire human heart in vivo without slice gaps. This, we hypothesized, would enhance the characterization of fiber architecture in the left ventricle (L...
